There are several Finnish research and funding institutions engaged in the Indo-Finnish cooperation on science and technology such as the Academy of Finland, Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes), Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) and the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).
With India being one of the most prominent cooperation partners of the Academy of Finland it has concluded cooperation agreements with several Indian institutions such as the Department of Science and Technology(DST), and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), with which the Academy of Finland has organized joint calls for proposals and seminars.
Within the past five years the role of Tekes providing research funding for projects in India has increased significantly. The Finnish high-level knowhow in diagnostics has drawn a great deal of interest in India resulting in plans for further cooperation in this field.
Indo-Finnish cooperation on innovation activities received a boost through the start of the Finnish Innovation Network in India (FinNode India) in February 2011. FinNode India, which is part of the Finnish innovation network, connects experts and knowledge between India and Finland to create innovations and to scale up these innovations to reach both developed and emerging markets. The main focus areas of FinNode India are cleantech, education and learning, healthcare and wellbeing, and innovations to base-of-the-pyramid markets.
